Naoshima Ferry: Fares, Crossing Times and Which Port to Use
Last checked against official sources on 2026-09-01
Two of the fares on this route changed recently, and most English-language guides still quote the old ones. The Uno–Miyanoura fare went from ¥300 to ¥370 on 1 February 2026. The Takamatsu–Miyanoura ferry went from ¥520 to ¥680 on 1 June 2025, its first rise in 43 years. Both changes were announced in Japanese only, which is why they are easy to miss.
Uno to Miyanoura: the short, cheap crossing
Uno Port sits on the Okayama side of the Seto Inland Sea and is the shortest way across. Shikoku Kisen runs both a car ferry and a smaller passenger boat on this route.
| Service | Adult one way | Child | Crossing | Sailings per day |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Ferry | ¥370 | ¥190 | about 20 min | 13 |
| Passenger boat | ¥370 | ¥190 | about 15 min | 3 |
Takamatsu to Miyanoura
Takamatsu is on Shikoku, so this is the route you want if you are coming from Kagawa rather than Okayama. It is longer and costs more.
| Service | Adult one way | Crossing | Sailings per day |
|---|---|---|---|
| Ferry | ¥680 | about 50 min | 5 |
| High-speed passenger boat | see note below | about 30 min | 4 |
Vehicles and bicycles on the Uno route
These fares also changed on 1 February 2026. The figures below are the current ones.
| Now | Before 1 Feb 2026 | |
|---|---|---|
| Bicycle | ¥330 | ¥310 |
| Moped | ¥680 | ¥640 |
| Car under 4 m | ¥2,390 | ¥1,960 |
Naoshima is small and mostly flat along the coast road, and a bicycle covers the island comfortably. Bringing a car across costs roughly six times what the bicycle costs, so consider whether you need it.
Which port should you use
- Uno is cheaper (¥370 against ¥680), quicker (about 20 minutes against 50) and far more frequent (13 ferry sailings a day against 5). If you are coming through Okayama, use Uno.
- Takamatsu makes sense if you are already on Shikoku, or if you want the faster boat and are continuing to Kagawa afterwards.
- The passenger boats on both routes are quicker but carry no vehicles, and they run far less often than the ferries.
Whichever you pick, check the operator's own timetable for the day you travel. Sailing counts change with the season and with events, and the numbers above are the regular pattern rather than a promise for a specific date.
What we could not confirm
We do not print a figure we have not seen at its source, so here is what is missing. The fare for the high-speed passenger boat from Takamatsu is not stated above. Shikoku Kisen's own fare table was not reachable when we checked, and the figure circulating in secondary sources is consistent with the June 2025 revision but we could not verify it against the operator. Check it on Shikoku Kisen's page before you budget for it.
We have also left out the train legs from Tokyo, Kyoto and Osaka to Uno or Takamatsu. Those fares and connections deserve the same check, and we would rather add them once verified than repeat what other pages say.
